Mapping EuroWordNet Top Ontology into Upper Cyc Ontology

The mapping is expressed in terms of a CycL micro theory encoding of the EuroWordNet Top Ontology on top of the publicly available part of the Cyc knowledge base. This approach was chosen because such a mapping just by means of equivalence and subsumption relations is impossible. However we provide also a simplified relational view that is sufficient for many purposes. More details could be found in [KiryakovSimov2000b].

The MS Access Database that is distributed is an extension of the "Upper Cyc Ontology as MS Access Database" (see above). The most straightforward way of use is to open the "EWN to Cyc" form. Actually, it is being opened automatically when the database is opened. Using this form the user can walk trough the EWN top concept. For each concept the following information could be seen and modified:

  • gloss of the EWN top concept
  • the list of EWN base concept associated to it
  • the list of Cyc constants related to this EWN constant, together with a comment for the kind of relation that takes place
  • the gloss of the currently selected Cyc concept
  • the type of mapping of the EWN concept into Cyc (exact, difference, gap, qualia).
  • the CycL definitions that constitute the top concept as an extension of the Upper Cyc Ontology
  • there is possibility to specify some meta properties following Guarino and Welty's classification.

The terms of use are exactly the same as those for the "Upper Cyc Ontology as MS Access Database".
