This page defines inference.
Inference is a logical process of creating a new statement from available and true other statements.
There are three types of inferences: deductive, abductive and inductive.
- Deductive inference - The process by which a conclusion is logically inferred from certain premises
- Abductive inference - The process of adopting an explanatory hypothesis, of finding premises. It covers two operations: the selection and the formation of plausible hypotheses.
- Inductive inference - The process by which a conclusion is inferred from multiple observations
