The robustness of KIM is owing to a number of open-source platforms:
GATE – a leading NLP and
Information Extraction platform developed at the University of Sheffield.
Sesame
– an RDF(S) repository, the development of which is led by Aduna b.v.
KIM uses as a semantic repository OWLIM -
the fastest and most scalable OWL engine, implemented as Storage and Inference Layer (SAIL) for Sesame.
Lucene
– an open-source Information retrieval (IR) engine by Apache.
Further, here follow few technical facts about KIM:
KIM is 100% implemented in Java (except the plug-in);
KIM has installations for Windows and Linux, which allow straightforward setup and configuration;
KIM is tested to run on the AMD64 platforms (with JDK 1.5), which
allows low-cost 64-bit computing. This is an extremely efficient way of scaling up an application,
based on the capability of AMD64 to directly address more than 4GB of RAM.
