Over the last 12 years we invested more than 300 person-years in applied research and product development in knowledge representation (KR) and reasoning, linked data management, natural language processing (NLP) and information retrieval (IR). This was a massive investment which started in the early 2000, when semantic technology was still quite ahead of the market. Today, when these technologies start penetrating the mainstream IT, this investment secures Ontotext an outstanding position in the field.

Our staff have more than 150 scientific publications. We created some of the most popular tools (e.g. the KIM semantic annotation platform) and delivered multiple solutions. We are the second biggest contributor (after the respective project owners) in two of the most popular open-source projects in the filed: Sesame and GATE.

We know what works and what does not! We have completed 20 EC research projects and currently have 8 in-progress. We partnered with more than 100 of the leading research groups and with IT giants like SAP, Software AG, Google. Ontotext set many benchmarks and advanced the frontiers in the semantic databases field. We also coined the term “semantic annotation” – the concept of interlinking text with data.

The diagram below presents the eco-system of technologies that allow us to build robust, efficient and economical content and data management solutions.
