Data Day Texas 2018

Ontotext’s CEO, Atanas Kiryakov, was invited to be a speaker at the Data Day Texas 2018 conference, which took place in Austin, TX, USA, on January 27th.

Ontotext’s talk was part of the Graph Day Sessions and its focus was ‘Cognitive graph analytics on company data and news’. Its aim was to demonstrate the power of Graph Analytics to create links between various datasets and lead to knowledge discovery.

To analyze diverse data from multiple sources one needs to have concept and entity awareness. It is the kind of knowledge that people have when they say: “I am aware of X”. Matching concepts and entities across disparate data sources and recognizing that they are mentioned in texts requires clear disambiguation of their meaning. And this is something that comes easy to people, but computers often fail to do right.

When dealing with business information, the most common type of entities are People, Organizations, and Locations (POL). At this year’s event, Atanas Kiryakov demonstrated how graph analytics on top of Ontotext’s POL Knowledge Graph (loaded with about 2 billion triples in Ontotext’s semantic graph database GraphDB) provides concept and entity awareness about POL. The Knowlege Graph combines several open data sources mapped to the FIBO ontology and interlinks their entities to 1 million news articles.

As part of his talk, Atanas Kiryakov demonstrated Ontotext’s services Rank and FactForge to show importance ranking of nodes, popularity ranking, retrieval of similar nodes in a Knowledge Graph, and determining distinguishing features of an entity.
