Ontotext Improves Its RDF Triplestore, GraphDB™ 6.0

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

GraphDB 6.0 is the only RDF triplestore that can perform inference at scale.

Today, Ontotext released a new version of its RDF triplestore, GraphDB™ 6.0 including enhancements to the high availability enterprise replication cluster, faster loading speeds, higher update rates and connectors for Lucene, SOLR and Elasticsearch. GraphDB™ 6.0 is the next major release of OWLIM – the graph database known for its outstanding support for OWL 2 and SPARQL 1.1 that already powers some of the most impressive RDF database showcases.

GraphDB™ 6.0, an RDF triplestore from Ontotext, was released today including improvements to the enterprise replications cluster, faster loading speeds, higher update rates and connectors for Lucene, SoLR and Elasticsearch. This release happens to coincide with a name change for this high performance triplestore – GraphDB™ was formerly known as OWLIM. Now, organizations interested in deploying the only mature enterprise resilient RDF triplestore will also benefit from advanced search functionality using the best full-text search engines without additional integration and synchronization efforts.

“Customers like BBC have had great success with our high availability enterprise replication cluster” reports Atanas Kiryakov, Executive Director and Founder of Ontotext. “Because of this, we improved the cluster architecture to guarantee even higher fault tolerance, faster recovery mechanisms and reliable synchronization across geographically remote data centers. In addition, we improved loading speeds by 3 to 5 times. Tests against 10’s of billions of triples indicate approximately 300,000 RDF statements loaded per second on a single commodity database server.”

GraphDB™ Connectors allow for integration with search engines and NoSQL databases. Currently, connectors for SOLR, Lucene and Elasticsearch are supported. Ontotext reports they are testing others as well. The SOLR connector has already been deployed allowing SOLR queries to be embedded as part of SPARQL queries. The connector takes care of synchronization allowing for updates in the RDF database to instantly trigger updates of the SOLR indices. When transactions in GraphDB™ are committed and complete, SOLR’s indices are already updated and ready to be used.

“GraphDB™ has long been known for its ability to infer new RDF statements at scale and retract them when needed,” reports Dimitar Manov, Head of GraphDB™ Engineering. “In the area of scalability, we are committed to extending our leadership position and have also improved update rates even when massive query loads are served in parallel. We can handle 3 times as many updates as our prior release and this extends to delete operations as well.”

Ontotext is the only RDF triplestore provider that also offers integrated text mining allowing for entities to be identified, extracted and classified from free flowing text. Many Ontotext customers use this natural language processing capability and concept extraction to create semantic facts. Ontotext supports a powerful blend of optimized inferencing and identity resolution. It’s the combination of the graph database, inferencing engine and text mining that has allowed Ontotext to deliver complete solutions in Media & Publishing, Life Sciences, Government, Document Management and Museums & Archives. Ontotext also recently released a complete set of tools and semantic technology allowing developers to build their own applications. “Ontotext S4”, The Self Service Semantic Suite, runs in the cloud using a low cost, pay-as-you-go model in support of small and mid-size businesses.

About Ontotext

Ontotext provides a complete set of semantic technology transforming how organizations identify meaning across massive amounts of unstructured data. Ontotext blends text mining, powerful SPARQL queries, semantic annotation and semantic search with an RDF triplestore  (GraphDB™) that infers new meaning at scale. Today, Ontotext is used to power the world’s largest media websites and supports knowledge management applications using tens of billions of semantic facts in publishing, healthcare, pharma & life sciences, governments, museums and archives. Ontotext technology delivers highly relevant search results for improved decision making – all in real time.

Ontotext also just released “Ontotext S4”, The Self Service Semantic Suite allowing developers to build text mining and semantic applications in the cloud. S4 includes text mining, reliable access to Linked Open data (Freebase, DbPedia, GeoNames) to enrich entities extracted from text, a set of tools for developers and GraphDB™. S4 is available in a hosted environment with a pay-as-you-go model at low cost allowing small and mid-size businesses to use enterprise hardened technology at a fraction of the cost. Applications built using S4 can be deployed in the cloud or on premise.
