VIGILANT Passes Mid-term Review with Flying Colors

The 36-month EU-funded project against disinformation is now past its halfway and continues with full speed ahead

New York, Sofia, Basel Wednesday, July 3, 2024

The VIGILANT project that helps Police Authorities (PAs) detect and analyze online disinformation had its mid-term review in late May 2024. The consortium presented to the project’s reviewers the work achieved so far, as well as plans for what’s to come in the remaining 18 months of the project.

The review was a day-long online event split into sessions that covered various aspects of VIGILANT. These ranged from project management, ethical and regulatory aspects, to technical implementation, training, and dissemination and communication activities. Ontotext presented the data storage centered around GraphDB and the Ontotext Platform, as well as the enrichment layer composed of Multilingual Entity Linking, Event Detection, and more.

The most captivating session, by far, was the live demo of the platform’s first version – the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The reviewers and many consortium members got to see the VIGILANT system in action from content ingestion to analysis for the first time.

The post-review feedback provided by the reviewers was overwhelmingly positive. However, some additional directions for future development were recommended, such as focusing on multilinguality and broadening the range of data sources. These recommendations have been reflected in the planning sessions held since and the partners are working on implementing those and other improvements within the remaining time of the project.
