IST World (Knowledge base for RTD competencies) is an IST research portal co-developed by Ontotext for the EU. It covers IT research information, including experts, organizations, projects, publications, collaborations, etc. The advanced functionalities of the portal include semantic search, social-networking and research trends analysis.

Project Objectives
The objective of the project is to set up and populate an information portal with innovative functionalities that help to promote IST RTD competencies in the New Member States and Associate Candidate Countries, and facilitate and foster the involvement of different research entities in joint RTD activities.
The IST World portal leverages the CERIF standard for Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) and contains information about RTD actors on the local, national and European level such as: persons, research groups, organizations, experience and expertise, projects, results (publications, patents, etc). The portal improves upon existing on-line services by offering innovative functionalities on top of the information repository.
IST World was created as part of a Specific Support Action) project funded within IST FP6 by the European Commission. The project was coordinated by DFKI, Germany.
Ontotext’s Role
The IST World portal is based on advanced techniques for automatic data acquisition, classification, knowledge extraction, trend detection and prediction. Techniques from social network analysis are used for trust net monitoring, authority identification, community identification and monitoring, and prediction of community evolution.
Ontotext joined the project as a technology provider and major Bulgarian IST player. The company provided complementary text analysis and semantic search services.
